These stories will be highlighted throughout the month on the DCF website at http://dcf.wisconsin.gov/children/foster/progserv/fcmo/fostering_our_future/default.htm.  The Leonards are featured in the “Fostering Our Future” campaign, to recognize the efforts of those who make a difference in the lives of foster children.

The following are the kind words written by their FW Social Worker, Holly McAbee.

To be successful foster parents, you must understand and support the children’s connection to their families.  For over fifteen years the Leonards have been foster parents for countless children that other providers are less likely to accept.  Jill and Gene Leonard are often willing to take on emergency placements and tackle the difficult task of caring for children with extreme behavioral issues.

They are outstanding foster parents not only in their commitment to even the most challenging of children, but in their ability to care for the children extraordinarily well.  They work with schools, agencies, and law enforcement to build close relationships for support.  Jill and Gene do all that they can to foster relationships with children’s families, which will help the children under their care succeed and have the support that they need.  They ensure that the children under their care are able to spend time and build relationships with their biological families, even opening up their home at times for entire weekends for family visits.  The Leonards are truly dedicated to the children under their care.
